Most of the confusion about rooftop solar in Lucknow is about the subsidy — how much it is, who receives it, and when. Here is the whole thing without the sales talk.

3 kW and aboveThe central subsidy stops rising after 3 kW. A 5 kW or 10 kW system receives the same ₹78,000 as a 3 kW one. This is why a 3 kW system is the sweet spot for most households, and why anyone pushing you toward a much larger system should be asked to justify it against your actual consumption.
The scheme is for domestic rooftop consumers. Commercial, institutional and industrial premises do not receive it — their case rests on accelerated depreciation and tariff savings instead.
Or hold clear authority over it. Tenants cannot claim against a landlord’s roof without the owner’s involvement.

Net metering is a condition. Off-grid and battery-backed systems are outside the scheme.
This is the part most people get wrong, and it is where most complaints come from.
By direct benefit transfer, into the account you registered on the portal. Not to the installer. Not adjusted against your invoice.
The system must be installed, net-metered and inspected, and commissioning must be recorded on the national portal. Nothing is paid in advance.
Your contract is for the whole system price. The subsidy is a separate transaction between you and the Government, which arrives afterwards.
In practice it usually arrives within a few weeks of commissioning being recorded, but it depends on portal processing and inspection scheduling, neither of which any installer controls.
If someone offers to deduct the subsidy from your price up front, ask hard questions. It means either they are financing it themselves and pricing that risk in, or they intend to collect it in your name. Neither is how the scheme is designed to work.
The electricity connection, the bank account and the portal registration must all match. A connection still in a late parent’s name is the most common single cause of delay.
Your sanctioned load has to support the system size. Enhancing it takes an application to UPPCL, and is best started early rather than discovered late.
Commissioning cannot be recorded until the bi-directional meter is installed and the inspection is done.
Work must be done by a vendor registered on the portal for the claim to proceed. Check the registration and the rating before you sign anything.

The PM Surya Ghar central subsidy — up to ₹1,08,000 with the UP top-up — is available for a limited period. The scheme closes 31 March 2027, or once one crore rooftops are installed nationally.
